Handmade Jewelry Business Part 4

A huge part of the process of making handcrafted jewerly is scouring the market for stones and jewelry findings! Along with the creative design process and seeing someone’s eyes light up if they love something you’ve made,  is also one of the most enjoyable aspects of the business.  Most of my stones are purchased from a few key wholesale suppliers in New York which is convenient to where I live.  Over nine I have developed relationships with a series of showrooms that can supply almost any semiprecious stone beads I need.  Early on someone told me about a supplier in India who I use for calipered stones when I am required to supply exact size and quality for an order. when I visited them in India they also brought in many suppliers from Jaipur to buy from.  The web, Etsy, catalogs, travelling sales people, bead and jewelry shows are other places where you can buy beads and findings. I keep most of my suppliers a trade secret!!
